homework
I understand that many students and their families have commitments outside of school. As a result, homework in third grade will be very flexible, so as to alleviate any stress or concern it may cause at home. Please see below for an explanation of our homework routines in room 19.
weekly word problems
Each Monday I will send home two word problems which should be completed and returned to school no later than Friday, so that we can go over them together in class. Solving two-step word problems is a year long standard in third grade, and I found that sending these problems home and going over them in class turned out to be very beneficial for many of my students last year.
AR (independent reading)
Students are responsible for meeting their monthly AR goal. The AR goal for September is 5 points, and will increase by 5 points each month (October = 10 points, November = 15 points, etc.) Students are encouraged to read 20 - 30 minutes per night in order to meet this goal, but this is not a requirement. However, students who do not meet their monthly AR goal will be given a reading log to complete at home until they have met the goal.
